Women's Health

Women’s Health GP on the Mornington Peninsula

At Safety Beach Medical and Wellness Practice, our experienced independent GPs provide compassionate, comprehensive women’s health care for every stage of life. From adolescence through to menopause and beyond, patients receive personalised support in a welcoming, inclusive environment at our Safety Beach and McCrae clinics.

We take a holistic approach to women’s health, understanding that physical wellbeing is closely connected to mental and emotional health. Whether attending for a routine health check, seeking guidance on contraception options, or navigating the changes of perimenopause, patients can expect thorough, evidence-based care tailored to individual needs.

Comprehensive Women’s Health Services

Cervical Screening

Regular cervical screening is one of the most effective ways to protect against cervical cancer. Cervical screening tests are provided in a comfortable, supportive setting, with self-collection options available for eligible patients who prefer this approach. The team can discuss screening intervals and help patients stay up to date with their preventative health schedule.

Breast Health and Checks

Breast awareness and regular checks are important components of women’s preventative health care. Clinical breast examinations are available, along with discussion of breast awareness techniques and referrals for mammography or other imaging when indicated. Patients are encouraged to discuss any breast concerns or changes during their appointment.

Contraception and Family Planning

Comprehensive contraceptive advice and services are available to help patients choose the option that best suits their lifestyle, health needs, and future plans. Services include counselling on all contraceptive methods, insertion and removal of contraceptive implants and intrauterine devices (IUDs), and ongoing management and review of contraceptive choices.

Fertility and Preconception Care

For patients planning a pregnancy, preconception health assessments and advice are available. This includes reviewing general health, discussing lifestyle factors, ensuring vaccinations are up to date, and addressing any pre-existing conditions. Initial fertility investigations and referrals to fertility specialists can also be arranged if needed.

Pregnancy and Antenatal Care

Dr Sarah Jeffs is a fully accredited shared obstetric care provider with Peninsula Health, offering antenatal appointments throughout pregnancy and postnatal care following birth. The shared care model allows patients to receive local, personalised pregnancy care while maintaining connection with their chosen birthing hospital.

Pregnancy support counselling is also available for patients who may be feeling unsure or emotional about a current or recent pregnancy. Eligible patients may access up to three Medicare-covered counselling sessions with a qualified professional. This is a non-judgmental, supportive service where patients choose what to discuss.

Menopause and Perimenopause Support

Dr Jo Pollott, Dr Emily Aries, and Dr Sarah Jeffs provide dedicated support for patients navigating perimenopause and menopause. Understanding that this transition affects each person differently, personalised management plans are developed that may include lifestyle modifications, symptom management strategies, and discussion of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) where appropriate.

Common concerns addressed include hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, and bone health. Our doctors stay up to date with current evidence and guidelines to provide patients with balanced information to support informed decision-making about their care.

Women’s Mental Health

Mental wellbeing is an integral part of women’s health care. Compassionate support is available for concerns including anxiety, depression, postnatal mental health, and the emotional aspects of life transitions such as pregnancy loss, fertility challenges, and menopause. Referrals to psychologists consulting at the practice are available for patients who may benefit from ongoing psychological support.

Sexual Health

Confidential sexual health consultations are available, including screening for sexually transmitted infections, management of common concerns, and advice on maintaining sexual health at every stage of life. All consultations are conducted with sensitivity and without judgment.

Preventative Health Checks

Regular health assessments help identify potential concerns early when they are often more easily managed. Comprehensive women’s health checks may include cardiovascular risk assessment, blood pressure monitoring, diabetes screening, bone health evaluation, and skin checks. These assessments are tailored to individual age, family history, and risk factors.

Medical Weight Management for Women

Evidence-based weight management support is available, with an understanding that women’s health needs in this area can be influenced by hormonal changes, life stages, and individual circumstances. Personalised programs may include medical assessment, nutrition guidance with the support of the practice’s accredited dietitian, and discussion of medication options where clinically appropriate.
